2019年的好莱坞或许注定属于华裔女星刘玉玲。
这一年，她迎来了50岁生日，在导演制片的转型之路上越走越远，并在好莱坞星光大道“留星”，成为继黄柳霜之后第二位“留星”的华裔女星。
而最近，她自导自演的这部名为《致命女人》(Why Women Kill) 的美剧更是刷爆了朋友圈。
目前，这部剧在豆瓣上已经get了9.3分的高分，在国外影评网站IMDb上也获得了8分的不俗口碑↓↓↓
这个由《绝望主妇》、《蛇蝎女佣》编剧马克·切利 (Marc Cherry) 亲自操刀创作的故事，讲述了居住在同一栋大别墅中三位不同年代女性的生活：从上世纪60年代的家庭主妇，再到80年代的名媛，最后是2018年的律师。

Created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids), Why Women Kill details the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2018, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal… has not.
其中，身兼主演和导演二职的刘玉玲 (Lucy Liu) 在剧中的表现，更是担得起“致命女人”四字。
其实，在刘玉玲扮演的众多角色当中，都有着 “大女主”的特质。
I think I've been – I feel like I've been representing it for a very long time. Not on purpose, but a lot of the characters that I have played have had a very good mind, you know and make decisions based on whatever she wanted.

而这些角色，或许也正是刘玉玲人生的缩影。
刘玉玲出生在美国纽约的一个华人移民家庭，从小家境并不好。但尽管生活拮据，刘玉玲的父母却相当重视孩子们的教育问题。
在很小的时候，刘玉玲就有了演员梦，但她却没有将演艺之路列入自己的职业规划中去，因为“演员”这个职业，在勤劳又务实的新移民父母眼中，太不实际了。
You have to give them something tangible. Like I have a stethoscope on, I’m going to be a ... you know, doctor. Or I’m going to be a lawyer. But I think the arts is not something they really understood or focused on. My parents were very focused on education and business, things like that.
你需要给他们点实际的东西。比如说拿着个听诊器，我要成为一名医生，或者我要成为一名律师。我认为他们并不太了解或者关注艺术。我父母相当关注教育和事业，以及诸如此类的事情。
于是，为了满足父母的期待，刘玉玲最后上了专攻数理科的高中，并前往密歇根大学攻读亚洲语言与文化学位，但她依然没有放弃自己的演艺梦想。
Liu ended up attending a math and science magnet high school (Stuyvesant) and went onto higher education (University of Michigan). While she performed in theater productions as a student, she earned a degree in Asian languages and cultures, rather than the arts. Still, she never gave up on her dream.
在上大学期间，她参加了学生组织的剧团，并常常参加剧团的排练。然而令她没想到的是，向来出演一些小配角的她，在剧团的一次试镜中，竟然被选中成为了《爱丽丝漫游仙境》的主角。
这件事令她震惊不已，也坚定了走上演艺之路的决心。
But she kept her dream of acting a secret when she went off to the University of Michigan, where she auditioned for a production of "Alice in Wonderland" -- and was cast in the lead role.
"It was shocking," Liu said. "I thought there was a mistake, a big mistake. I kept following the name to the character. And I was in shock.”
Growing up as somebody from another country, really, not what you see on television, I never saw myself in the forefront, ever. We were always in the background.

Everyone was willing to have me on their roster, but not commit to me because they didn’t know, realistically, how many auditions I could get. The challenge from the beginning was just the diversity and "We don’t really know what to do with you" and "There’s not going to be a lot of work for you."

Liu is one of the most prominent Asian-American actors in history, but it has been a struggle to find decent work. Even her best-known role, Ling Woo in the hit TV series Ally McBeal, a role the writer created specifically for her, was criticised by many as a variation on the western stereotype of the oriental "dragon lady": aggressive, unemotional and sexually exotic. Quentin Tarantino did little to deflate this stereotype in Kill Bill, in which Liu played a female samurai who beheaded someone in a boardroom.
渐渐地，她开始探索演员转型之路。
2006年，她开始尝试制片，为电影《自由的怒吼》(Freedom’s Fury) 担任制片人。几年后，她在百老汇的舞台上初次登场，参演戏剧《杀戮之神》(God of Carnage)。

Liu made her debut as a producer with the film "Freedom’s Fury" in 2006, and a few years later, she made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning play "God of Carnage." In 2012, she played Dr. Joan Watson alongside Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes in CBS’s "Elementary," where she also directed two episodes of the show.
大家耳熟能详的福尔摩斯的故事已经被多次改编成影视剧，而在这一版的故事中，故事发生地不光改成了现代的纽约，福尔摩斯的挚友兼助手华生还变成了女性，由刘玉玲饰演。
在剧中，大侦探福尔摩斯也会露出脆弱的一面，而刘玉玲饰演的“女版”华生也不再是对福尔摩斯言听计从的随从，更像是同伴。
This is another take on Holmes in the recent resurgence of movies and TV series starring the renowned detective: 2009’s “Sherlock Holmes” and its 2011 sequel, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson, respectively; and “Sherlock,” the British TV series set in contemporary London, which debuted in 2010.
What makes “Elementary” stand out from the other two, aside from the fact that Watson’s a woman, is that it’s set in modern-day New York City rather than London and Holmes is a brilliant yet tormented detective straight out of rehab.

经过这些历练，《致命女人》今年的大获成功，似乎也是水到渠成了。
接下来，刘玉玲还将制作一部叫做《无名英雄》(Unsung Heroes) 的女性主题剧集，其中还会讲到华人女星黄柳霜的故事。看来，又有好剧可以追了~
而除去演艺身份之外，刘玉玲还是个办过多次画展的视觉艺术家。
从1993年开始，她就以“Yu Ling”为名创作作品了。2004年，她还购入了一间艺术工作室，并跑去纽约工作室学院 (New York Studio School) 进修。
2011年，她首次以真名“刘玉玲”办画展，不少人这才知道刘玉玲的这项隐藏技能。
除此之外，她还热心公益，将自己出售画作所得捐给公益组织，并长年担任联合国儿童基金会大使。
今年5月1日，在多个领域都有所突破的刘玉玲，终于和前辈黄柳霜一样，在好莱坞星光大道留下镶名之星。
在授星仪式上，她发表了一番长达7分钟的动情演讲，回顾了自己的演艺生涯。
在演讲中，她感谢了了黄柳霜的先锋意义：
她还感谢了自己的父母，是他们教会她生存、坚韧与决心。
刘玉玲表示，自己从未想过要成为先锋，只是热爱表演罢了。而这个职业生涯，也教会了她成长，实现了自己的梦想，让她在满天星辰中，找到了自己的位置。
今年50岁的她，精彩人生才刚刚开始。
