4日凌晨，十余名爱国爱港人士自发来到香港海港城前，将一面崭新的五星红旗缓缓升起。升旗完毕后，这些爱国香港市民自发在国旗下唱国歌，路过的香港市民停下脚步肃立。

另据中通社、《文汇报》消息，4日上午9时，上百名香港市民自发前往尖沙咀天星码头举行升国旗仪式。市民在国旗下高唱国歌，向国旗致敬。

As a way of expressing their indignation over the desecration of China's national flag by some radical protesters on Saturday, a group of Hong Kong residents voluntarily organized a flag-raising and anthem-singing ceremony on Sunday morning in the place where the national flag was removed from the pole and tossed into the sea.
Indeed, not only Hong Kong people but all Chinese people felt affronted by such an act. The deliberate desecration of the national flag, the symbol of national dignity, is intolerable. It is an act directly challenging national sovereignty. The culprits must be condemned in the strongest terms and punished in accordance with the law.

A central government spokesperson on Sunday strongly condemned the egregious acts of flinging the Chinese national flag into the sea committed by some radical protesters in Hong Kong.
Black-clad, masked protestors removed the Chinese national flag from a flagpole in Tsim Sha Tsui and later flung the flag into the water Saturday, said the spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.
"The acts have seriously violated the National Flag Law of the People's Republic of China and the National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)," said the spokesperson. "Their conduct has blatantly offended the state and national dignity, wantonly trampled on the bottom line of the 'one country, two systems' principle, and greatly hurt the feelings of the entire Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots."

The spokesperson of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said it was the second time the nation's dignity was trampled by radical protesters who besieged the liaison office building and defaced the national emblem on July 21.
Such lawlessness must not be allowed and offenders must be brought to justice in accordance with the law, the spokesperson said, reiterating the central government's support for the SAR government and police to strictly enforce the law to punish lawbreakers and restore order.
3日晚，全国政协副主席、香港特区前行政长官梁振英连续在社交网站发出三篇帖文予以强烈谴责，帖文指出，“此举必将引起全国人民极大愤慨，我作出最强烈的谴责，并请全港市民提供资料，全力协助缉捕狂徒归案。”
梁振英表示，悬赏港币100万，向全社会征集线索，缉捕在天星码头将国旗丢入海中的狂徒。任何公众人士向警方提供线索，一经法庭定罪，可得此悬赏。他还倡议成立悬赏基金，协助警方缉捕狂徒侮辱国家、冲击警察、破坏秩序的行为。
A reward of HK$1 million was offered for information on the culprits by Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Following the incident, Leung posted three separate messages on his social media page to express "strongest condemnation" against the defiling of the national flag.
